FAQs

Parents and Students

There is no fee to search for a tutor and no fee to register as a parent or student. Every tutor charges a different rate and so there are tutors to suit every budget. Why not have a look on the Find A Tutor page and see what the current ranges are?

Yes, you can. However, popular tutors book up quickly and so we recommend that once you find a tutor you like that you book a whole term.

Yes, you can. If you give us more than 24 hours' notice we only charge the booking fee again. However, if you need to reschedule with less than 24 hours' notice we retain the tutors fee and the booking fee.

If you know you are going to miss a session, please let the tutor know and reschedule. If you reschedule with more than 24 hours' notice we only charge the booking fee again. However, if you need to reschedule with less than 24 hours' notice, or miss the session, we retain the tutors fee and the booking fee.

We offer a free 30-minute initial trial session so that you get to know your tutor before you book. If you are unhappy after any session, however, please contact us within 48 hours of a session and we will investigate and discuss the issues with you and the tutor.

All video sessions are private and secure. Only the tutor, student, parent and authorised Knect Learn Administrators can access it. We do record all sessions and we may monitor occasional sessions for quality and training purposes.

Because we are taking payment for the sessions we ask that a parent or guardian register an account and add students who are under 18-year-old to that account.

We happily pass on any positive feedback and may post it on the website. The tutor will know who the positive feedback is coming from and we if we post your positive feedback on the website we will only show your first name. Any negative feedback we will monitor, collate and pass on anonymously to the respective tutor. We continually work with tutors to help improve their performance and we appreciate any suggestions you may have.

You are free to sit in on any of your children's sessions. All sessions are available to be watched again for up to one month after the session date.

You can extend the availability of any video session by renting it for $10 per month. Note the availability extension must be booked while the video is viewable on your profile. Once it has been taken down you cannot rent it or request it again.

We ask all tutors who are over 18 years old to have a Working With Children Check (WWCC). Tutors who are under 18-year-old cannot obtain one from the Government. We ask these tutors to provide evidence of their age and request the check as soon as they turn 18. Their profile will not show a WWCC badge.

The video connection works on most bandwidths. However, if you know that your connection is poor or prone to drop outs we recommend that you do not register for this service.

Tutors

If you have your own ABN you can register as an independent tutor on the site. We will ask you to pay a monthly subscription to cover advertising and administration. The subscription is $35 per month but the first month is free. Sometimes we run promotions that extend the number of free months. Check out the Become A Tutor page to see if there are any promotions now. We charge a 10% commission on any bookings. You can cancel your subscription at any point and your listing will be removed from the site. If you don't have an ABN you can become a casual employee. There is no fee and no monthly subscription to become a casual employee, however, we calculate the appropriate award rate and the rate is fixed. We charge you out at double the award rate as there is significant administration involved.

You can choose when you want to teach. Simply nominate which hours you are available each day on your profile. Make sure you keep it up to date. As most students are at school though, most lessons take place before or after school, or at the weekends, during term time.

Yes, you can, but it is not good practise and you are likely to get a bad rating if you do it often. You need to give us and the student at least 24 hours' notice. If you reschedule or cancel with less than 24 hours' notice we will charge you the commission that we would have made for that session.

Yes, it is compulsory that all new students / parents are able to have a free, no obligation chat with you via video prior to making any bookings, so that they can decide if you are the appropriate tutor for their child. We do not charge for it and you do not get paid for it. A parent can only have one free session with you. All sessions after that must be paid for.

No. We do not charge for it and you do not get paid for it. A parent can only have one free session with you. All sessions after that must be paid for.

No, you do not. However, if you continually refuse bookings your profile will rank lower in the search engine and parents may give you a poor review. It is best practise to make sure that your booking schedule is always up to date.

All sessions are recorded. Parents and students can review them at any time for up to one month after the initial session. They can also pay extra to be able to review them after the initial month. We also occasionally review sessions for training and quality purposes and sometimes we ask experienced tutors to review and rate tutors. This helps everyone continue to learn and improve.

All your feedback goes direct to the parent and student. We analyse feedback for trends, quality and training purposes and to improve systems and capabilities of the platform.

Parents are looking for all sorts of different tutors. Some parents want qualified tutors and some parents want enthusiastic passionate tutors who have just passed their HSCs. We accept all sorts of tutors but if you list any qualifications we ask you to upload a PDF so that we can verify it.

You can choose when you want to tutor, and we do not guarantee any bookings. The number of bookings that you get will depend on what you are tutoring, how good your profile is, your availability, your rate and your reviews. If you have your own ABN you can set your own hourly rate. If you become a casual tutor we will calculate the appropriate Award Rate for you.

You can stop at any time. Please contact us directly. However, if you have any bookings already scheduled with students there are some procedures and obligations that we ask you to complete. These are outlined in the onboarding pack.

You are free to teach what you are passionate about and you must work out what your student's needs are. The topic listings help parents find you. You can submit a topic for us to review if it is not listed when you create your profile.

All tutors who are over 18 years old must have a Working With Children Check (WWCC). This can be obtained from the NSW Government via an online application. It costs $80 and lasts for 5 years. We do not accept tutors without the check. The Working With Children Check is not available for tutors under the age of 18. If you are under 18 you can tutor but you must provide evidence of your birth date (a PDF of your Birth Certificate or Passport), and we will request the number as soon as you turn 18 years old. Your profile will be marked as without a WWCC so that parents are aware.

The video sessions can be conducted via iPhone, Android, Tablet, iPad or a laptop. However, for the best teaching experience we recommend you use a laptop, that has an inbuilt camera and microphone, in a quiet room with good lighting. The video platform also has an interactive whiteboard and you can share screens with each other.

The video connection works on most bandwidths. However, if you know that your connection is poor or prone to drop outs we recommend that you do not register for this service.

It depends how long you take to complete your profile and if you complete all fields correctly. Once all fields are submitted correctly we need to verify your Working With Children number and check your content. We endeavour to do this as quickly as possible but it may take up to 5 working days during peak periods.

We accept tutors who are aged 16 and above. However, as it is not possible to get a Working With Children Check if you are under 18 years old, and we are audited by the Government regulators, we need to prove to them that you are under 18 years old. Therefore, we ask you upload a certified copy of either your passport or photo ID which shows your birthday and an image of you. You can upload the certified copies via the qualification section of the application form. A Justice of the Peace (a JP) will certify a copy for you, for free, if you take the original and the copy along to them. You can search for the nearest JP to you by going to the jp.lawlink Government website. Once you turn 18 years old you will be required to provide a Working With Children Check number or be delisted at that point.

You can tutor in half hour or one hours blocks, or any combination of that. In the application form we ask you to enter your rate per hour and we simply calculate the charge from that. We also ask you to list your availability by hour on the application form, but once your bookings come in, we update the availability search for parents and consider any half hour, or one hour, sessions that have been booked.

There is no lock-in contract, if you are an independent tutor, with your own ABN, you are free to end your subscription (and therefore listing) at any time. If you are a casual employee, you can also give notice at any time. However, we do ask that you honour any outstanding bookings which you have already accepted from parents. If you do not honour them and we must find a tutor to replace you, we charge you an exit fee to cover that. If you are an independent tutor, the subscription fee is waived for the first month while you trial the platform. The monthly subscription fee will be charged after one month unless you cancel your subscription. Sometimes we run promotional offers which extend the free trial period. Check out the Become A Tutor page to see if there is a promotion running now. If you are a casual employee, there are no on-going fees and you can end your contract at any point. We do not have a trial period for tutors. We continually monitor your performance and the feedback that you receive. We expect you to act on the feedback and continually improve and learn as you teach. If we feel that your tutoring is not up to the standards that we require, or if we receive significant negative feedback about you, we reserve the right to delist you at any point.

You can enter your Working with Children Check number or blue card number in the qualifications section of the application.

If you live in NSW, QLD, VIC, WA or NT you must supply a Working With Children Check number. If you live in SA or TAS please upload a copy of your National Police Check and enter that number in the Working With Children section of the application form.

Schools

1% of the fees that that parent pays will be donated to a children’s charity.

Tutors who have chosen to donate extra have an icon marked on their profile next to their rate per hour.

Knect Learn donates 1% of all tutoring fees (exc. GST) to charity. Some of the tutors also chose to donate a further 1% (exc. GST) of their fees. If all the parents who nominate your school choose tutors who donate extra, the school will receive a 2% donation. Usually parents chose a range of tutors and so the actual donation is somewhere between 1 and 2%.

At the start of each term.

We need bank account details to make payments and contact details in case of any issues.

At the start of each term we add up all the tutoring fees, paid by parents who nominated your school in the previous term and calculate the donation. If your school is registered, we make the payments each term.
